When following another vehicle, you should remain at least two to three seconds behind it at all times. This is the minimum recommended following distance. In poor weather, poor visibility, or heavy traffic, you should maintain an even greater following distance. The greater the following distance, the more time you will have to brake or maneuver if the vehicle ahead stops.
