Under Nebraska law, if the driver holds a POP, the driver and every passenger must wear a seat belt or suitable child restraint. If the driver holds a full-privilege Class O operator's license, rear-seat passengers who are at least 18 years of age are not legally required to wear seat belts. However, it's still advisable for all occupants of a vehicle to wear seat belts or suitable child restraints. A study conducted in 2015 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Children's Hospital of Philadephia found that unrestrained rear-seat occupants were nearly eight times as likely to sustain a serious injury in a crash as restrained rear-seat occupants.
