All driver and vehicle services in the state of Connecticut are handled by the Department of Motor Vehicles. There are numerous DMV offices spread out around the state. Understanding what the different offices provide helps you arrive at the right office.
There are five types of offices in Connecticut. DMV Hub Offices are full-service centers where you can get anything you need.
All registration services are offered by DMV Limited Service Offices; however, they have restrictions on licensing. Although they don't function as full-service licensing centers, they do offer some licensing services.
Renewals of licenses are offered by DMV Photo License Centers. They also offer certain registration services; however, those services are limited.
For visits to DMV Appointment Only Locations, an appointment is required. You can take a driver’s license test, a CDL test, or you can renew your license depending on whatever office you go to. Limited registration services are also provided by one of the offices.
Finally, services for license renewal are offered at AAA License Renewal Locations. Renewals of CDLs or endorsements are not available at these offices.
Check the wait times online before going to one of these offices in person.
The DMV also has certain online services. Online registration renewal and damaged plate replacement are two options. Additionally, you can cancel your license plates and registration, or use the online tool to pay for your suspended license.
By printing your forms online, you can speed up your trip to the DMV. When you visit the DMV, you won't need to fill them out since you have done this beforehand.
From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday through Friday, you can call the DMV. The ideal times to call are either Wednesdays during the day or Thursday mornings.
