If you are a first-time DUI offender whose license has been suspended, you may apply for the installation of a Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device (BAIID). A BAIID measures your driver's blood alcohol concentration (BAC) through a breath test. If your BAC is higher than a preset level, the device will prevent your vehicle's engine from starting and automatically alert the IL Secretary of State's office. If your application is approved, the installation of this device (at your own expense) should allow you to operate a vehicle during the suspension period.
