If you fail the test three times or wait more than ninety days to retake it, the application will be closed and you will have to begin again. Obtaining a learner’s permit is not a difficult process in general.
In Massachusetts, you are not permitted to take the driving test more than six times in one year.
There are 25 questions on the official Massachusetts RMV Test, and you must answer 18 of them correctly. You will have 25 minutes to complete the exam. The test will cover Massachusetts driving laws and road rules. You’ll also be asked to identify road signs based on their shape and color.
In order to obtain a learner’s permit, driver’s license, or Mass ID in Massachusetts, you must provide proof of citizenship or lawful presence, a Social Security number, and proof of Massachusetts residency.

Even though your expiration date has passed, you can still renew. If you wait more than four (4) years after it expires, you must retake the learner’s permit test and driving test. Driving with an expired license is against the law.
If you are new to Massachusetts, you must obtain a new driver’s license. You will not need to retake a road test if you have a valid, non-expired driver’s license from another state.
You’ll need the following: Out-of-state driver’s license, proof of identification, social security card or proof of social security number, two proofs of address, and proof of lawful presence in the United States Fees: $28 for renewing your license and $11.50 for a new identification card.
