The Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) of Montana is in charge of vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses. However, the state uses different offices for the tasks. Determine whether you need to go to a Driver Exam Station or one of the County Treasurer Motor Vehicle offices prior to visiting an MVD division. Then, gather your items and head out to the office.
If you need to take a driver's exam, you must visit a Driver License Exam Station. The stations hold both commercial and standard driving exams. You must prepay at the Powell County Treasurer's Office before the test day if you plan to take your exam at the Deer Lodge Driver License Exam Station or else you won't be allowed to take the exam. If you are taking the test somewhere else, you can pay on test day at the station.
The stations take care of all of your other licensing needs in addition to exams. When you visit one of these stations, you can register to vote, obtain a license, or get a permit.

Using the online form, you can also change or cancel your appointment.
Registrations, titles, and license plates are handled by the Treasurer Motor Vehicle offices. If you have a new vehicle, you can also obtain a temporary registration permit or renew your vehicle registration online. You may also get your vehicle history report online.
