In the state of Illinois, the Secretary of State is in charge of driver and vehicle services. If you need a new driver's license, title, or any other services pertaining to vehicles or drivers, you can go to a Secretary of State facility. These facilities are located all over Illinois. Find the one closest to you by using the online facility finder. Along with the facility's operating hours, you will also see a list of the services it offers.
You can use the online services if you would rather stay at home. These services are offered twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. You can complete a variety of tasks online. Online services include:
You can schedule CDL appointments by using the online service.
The Secretary of State issues driver’s licenses and ID cards that comply with federal Real ID requirements. Real ID shields users from fraud and identity theft. Since registrations took effect in 2020, residents can also enter federal facilities and board planes with these IDs. Anyone without these IDs won't be allowed to fly or enter federal facilities until they switch over to IDs with Real IDs.
The Secretary of State offers renewal notices through email. Once you sign up for this service and you are up for renewal, the SOS will email you, which is both convenient and environmentally friendly. When you choose to receive renewal notices via email, you can help the state use less paper.
You can get in touch with the Illinois DMV by phone or mail if you have a question or concern. When contacting driver or vehicle services, use the correct contact information.
