Question:
New Jersey law prohibits the use of handheld electronic devices (e.g., cellular telephones) while driving a motor vehicle on any public road or highway, except in an emergency. Using a handheld device is a primary offense; a police officer can pull you over and cite you for doing that. For a first offense, you will have to pay a fine of between $200 and $400.
